Stock is starting to move now with young empty cows making up to €1,300 and heifers in the region of €2,300, Alan Clarke of Cows.ie told the Irish Farmers Journal at the National Ploughing Championships.
“The Jersey crossbred types are running around €1,000 from the parlour, with Holstein-Friesian cows making closer to €1,300.
“Not a lot of animals have been sold yet, but in the last week or two we’re definitely hearing more interest from farmers to offload cows,” Clarke added.
Culls in good condition are expected to be close behind those prices.
“In terms of heifers, in-calf heifers are making between €2,000 and €2,300, with higher EBI stock making slightly more.
“Weanling heifer prices are between €800 to €1,000. Like with the in-calf, higher EBI stock are fetching more,” Clarke said.
Early indications are that stock prices will be behind on 2025 levels, but there is still appetite out there for good stock.
