Farm hazardous waste collections announced for six locations

Six farm hazardous waste collections will take place across the country in September and October, the Department of Agriculture has announced.

The collections will take place in Donegal, Louth, Galway, Kilkenny, Kildare and Cork, and all centres will be open from 9am – 5pm.

Farmers using the service will pay a fee directly to the waste management company, who are responsible for the collection, removal and disposal of the waste.

Locations and dates

The first collection will take place at Ballybofey and Stranorlar Cooperative Livestock Mart in Donegal on Wednesday 2 September.

This will be followed by a collection at Ardee Livestock Sales in Louth on Wednesday 23 September, and Ballinasloe Co-Op Mart in Galway on Tuesday 29 September.

Three collections will then take place in October, starting with Gowran Park Racecourse in Kilkenny on Wednesday 14 October.

This will be followed by Punchestown Racecourse in Kildare on Wednesday 21 October, and Clonakilty Showgrounds in Cork on Wednesday 28 October.

Charges

Charges vary depending on the type of waste being disposed of.

Pesticides and Biocides, including wood preservatives and rodenticides will cost €4.50/kg excluding vat, while veterinary medicines such as doses, dips, wormers, dry tubes, sharps and glass medicine bottles will cost €3.50/kg.

Waste oil will cost €0.20/kg, while hazardous and non-hazardous paint, and oil filters/drums will cost €1.20/kg.

Corrosives, brake fluid, grease, adhesives, aerosols and persistent organic pollutants will all cost €6.00/kg.
