Tipperary-based Drought Engineering showcased its new Cubimax loader-mounted cubicle sweeper/bedder unit at the Ploughing. With the rising popularity of telehandlers and farm loaders, the new product aims to offer the functionality of a self-propelled cubicle bedder at a fraction of the cost.

Although the business specialises in custom-made mechanical solutions for a range of industries, cubicle sweeper/bedders are not a new venture. Having originally adapted and repurposed a John Deere greens mower for a local dairy farmer to sweep, scrape and bed cubicles, Jason Drought spotted an opportunity to source, adapt and retail such machines. Since then, Jason has retailed over 60 machines.

The company’s latest solution, the Cubimax has been designed to offer the same functionality from the comfort of a loader cab. The fully galvanised solution is offered with a 200l or 220l hopper (extensions available) and either a 1.65m or 2.15m-wide scraper. Mounted to the right-hand side (left-hand side optional) of the unit is the company’s proven hydraulic brush arm. As a further option, a self-loading hopper is available. Similar to most existing self-propelled machines on the market, bedding is dispensed via an auger and hydraulic blower.

The Cubimax offers five areas of adjustment auger speed, blower speed, shutter opening position, chute angle and forward speed. Meanwhile, all functions are operated via a single double acting third service and are controlled via a wireless remote and solenoid valve block. A range of loader brackets are offered. Pricing for the smaller model starts at €7,350 plus VAT.
