Bidders at Omagh Auction Mart on Monday morning were undeterred by Storm Boelo and demand for dropped calves remained strong.
Of the 126 lots presented, a sale clearance rate of 100% was achieved with some bidders being forced to make the return journey home with empty trailers.
Continental calves were most sought after, with Charolais male calves consistently being knocked down to the highest prices.
Top price of the sale was a four-month-old Charolais male calf which realised £1,080, with other similarly aged Charolais calves making prices of between £1,060 and £950.
Beef-bred calves
Beef-bred calves traded strongly throughout the sale and in general, achieved prices above £500, however, some young native-bred calves fell slightly short of this.
Dairy-bred calves ranged from £240 paid for a young Friesian calf to £500 for a four-month-old Holstein.
Female calves were shorter on the ground but sold consistently. Strong female calves sold well with the top priced heifer calf being a seven-month-old Aberdeen Angus at £940.
Females ranged from £300 for a young Aberdeen Angus to £940, with most selling for prices above £500.
Across Monday’s sale, an overall average of £564 was achieved.
