The ram trade at early sales in NI is holding relatively firm.
The Llyen Sheep Society sale held at Ballymena Mart on 5 September saw a top price of 2,800gns going to J & C Kennedy for their ram Mileview Official, knocked down to Alan McDonald.
Although prices did not reach the heights of 2025, the sale still saw a clearance of 90% with rams selling to average £1,031.
Armoy Mart’s Suffolk show and sale held on 11 September saw a similar trade to last year with a top shearling price of £1,400 going to Geoffrey Douglas. Graham Thompson topped the ram lambs at £940.
Also on 11 September, Enniskillen Mart held the NI Texel Sheep Breeder’s Club sale, with a top of 3,280gns on the night, going to Geoffrey Cathcart, Monea. Prices for ram lambs ranged from 440 to 1,440gns, while shearlings ranged from 600 to 1,580gns. Alastair Breen, Tempo took the top shearling sale price.
The Beltex ram sale at Ballymena Mart on 14 September saw a high of £450 for a ram lamb from D & A McCrea, Strabane, while J Graham from Omagh topped the shearling trade at £850.
