One of the many highlights from this year’s Sustainable Livestock Village at the Tullamore Show and FBD National Livestock Show was the day’s speakers’ corner, and particularly the Women in Agriculture panel discussion.

Held as part of the International Year of the Woman Farmer, it outlined the experiences of panellists working in the sector and highlighted the need for proactive supports to encourage more women into farming, business and leadership roles.

The speakers’ corner also explored a range of issues shaping the future of Irish agriculture, with farmer-led discussions on supporting the next generation through farm succession, strengthening trust between farmers and consumers, why sustainability matters and protecting water quality.

Throughout the day, farmers shared practical experiences alongside industry experts, creating valuable opportunities for learning, discussion and knowledge exchange.

Visitors also experienced a wide range of practical demonstrations, ranging from livestock and genetics displays, to interactive exhibits on animal health, water quality and sustainability, which showcased the latest innovations helping to improve farm performance. The Sustainable Livestock Village, supported by FBD, once again demonstrated the strength of collaboration across the Irish agri food sector, with 11 organisations coming together under one roof to provide farmers with practical advice, expert knowledge and innovative solutions that can be implemented on farms across the country, helping to build a more sustainable and resilient future for Irish agriculture.

Photo competition

The Sustainable Livestock Village photography competition in partnership with the Irish Farmers Journal continued in 2026, with a record number of entries received.

With a prize fund of €1,200, the competition aims to demonstrate good farming practices in relation to sustainability on farms across three categories, including a new addition to recognise the important role women play in Irish farming:

  • Generations working together.
  • Sustainable farming in action.
  • Celebrating women in agriculture.

    • The competition provides an opportunity to highlight the sustainability actions taking place on farms across the country and showcase them in the Sustainable Livestock Village through a photo wall.
