There seems to be no end in sight to centenary celebrations in Cork in recent years.

Last year a pair of west Cork co-ops in Barryroe and Lisavaird Co-ops celebrated 100 years in existence and now some of their individual branches are commemorating the early days of their ventures into the co-op movement.

Barryroe’s Darrara branch hosted a historic talk lately and across Clonakilty Bay, Ardfield branch of Lisavaird held a celebration day on Friday last to mark the occasion.

It’s not that long since Drinagh marked their 100-year mark either and my notes tell me the centurion club won’t be confined to west Cork either. North Cork Co-op turns 100 in 2028.

I only hope all these celebrations don’t distract too much from the day-to-day businesses.
