I understand the Bord Bia forum on Monday opened with a restaurant review. Not just any restaurant, but SOLE, the high-end Dublin eaterie co-owned by Bord Bia chair Larry Murrin.

It was the subject of a review in the Irish Times, no less, last week, which was scathing of the fact that it sourced chicken from the Netherlands and Poland, sea bass which could be from Turkey, prawns, bizarrely from Bangladesh, and Scottish smoked salmon.

The review noted that SOLE’s claimed “food philosophy is one honouring seafood sustainability and local Irish producers”.

I understand every member of the 100-strong Bord Bia forum got a print-out of that review, plus a letter from the IFA to Larry Murrin, plus a follow-up Irish Times article on the implications of their review.

They got Al Capone for tax evasion, will Larry Murrin fall fowl (sorry) of imported chicken and an Asian prawn cocktail?
