A new company is aiming to reduce the paperwork farmers and farm advisers face.
Furrow, a start-up Irish company, has developed a system that stores, organises and analyses a farm’s records to reduce the administrative burden on both farmers and advisers.
The company describes it as an “AI back office” that can do the “reading, filing, chasing and drafting” so that advisers can focus on finalising submissions and other aspects of their business.
The company is attending the National Ploughing Championships in Enterprise Ireland’s Innovation Arena having been named as one of three finalists in the 'Start-Up of the Year' category.
How it works
A farmer can send photos, documents and messages on WhatsApp to the Furrow AI. The AI can then answer questions, give advice and ask for further information required. It can be used in many situations, which include applying to schemes.
The Furrow AI then converts the information into structured records; checks the rules and regulations relating to the action being taken; flags what the adviser needs to do and creates a list of tasks to be completed.
The adviser should then have a complete set of records and a draft version of a submission available to them.
The company stresses that there is no app, login details or website that the farmer has to access; it is all done through WhatsApp.
