On Saturday, Carrick-on-Shannon Showgrounds hosted its yearly breeding ewe lamb and hogget sale, where over 150 hoggets and 800 ewe-lambs went under the hammer.
Trade was steady for hoggets, with Suffolk-cross hoggets selling to a top of €350/head, ranging from €320/head upwards.
Mule-cross hoggets sold around the €300/head mark, with a small number of Cheviot and Texel-cross hoggets selling from €350/head to €375/head.
Of the 800 ewe lambs on offer, they varied across a number of breeds, with trade varying depending on quality.
A good entry of well-made Cheviot ewe lambs weighing from 50kg upwards sold to an exceptional demand, with these selling from €500/head up to a top of €575/head.
The better-quality Suffolk and Cheviot-cross lambs that potentially will be mated to the ram this year sold from €200/head to €250/head for varying weights of between 40kg and 55kg.
A good share of the ewe-lambs sold from €170 to €210/head, with heavier and better-quality lambs over €200.
A small number of lighter type ewe lambs weighing from 38kg to 42kg sold from €140/head to €150/head. Overall there was an excellent clearance across lambs and hoggets.
