Now celebrating its 35th edition, the Sommet will take place from 6 to 9 October 2026 in Clermont-Ferrand, in the heart of the Massif Central – Europe’s largest grassland region and a historic centre of pastoral farming.
More than just an agricultural show, the Sommet has become an essential event on the international livestock calendar, attracting 1,800 exhibitors and 120,000 professional visitors, including around 6,000 international attendees.
For four days, farmers, breeders, businesses, researchers and decision-makers will come together to exchange expertise and discover the innovations shaping tomorrow’s livestock farming.
The full spectrum of livestock excellence
Livestock remains at the heart of the Sommet. Visitors will discover an exceptional showcase of French and European genetics, with around 70 breeds of cattle, sheep, goats and horses represented throughout the event.
In 2026, the Limousin breed will take centre stage, highlighting the quality and expertise behind one of France’s most internationally recognised beef cattle breeds.
Beyond genetics, the Sommet covers every aspect of the livestock industry: animal health and nutrition, farm machinery, equipment, renewable energy, digital technologies, buildings and services.
This year will see a reinforced focus on animal health, alongside an additional 10,000m² dedicated to agricultural machinery and equipment.
More than 140 conferences and symposiums will also address the major challenges facing agriculture, from climate resilience and farm profitability to animal welfare, generational renewal and the future of livestock production.
2026: a special year for pastoralism
The 2026 edition takes on particular significance as it coincides with the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists, declared by the United Nations.
Located in the Massif Central, where grass-based livestock farming and pastoral systems have shaped landscapes and rural communities for generations, the Sommet is ideally positioned to highlight the environmental, economic and social importance of pastoralism.
The event will provide an opportunity to explore how these farming systems can contribute to biodiversity, landscape management, food production and resilient rural economies.
International appeal and Irish relevance
With around 6,000 international visitors and 330 international exhibitors, the Sommet is a major meeting point for the global livestock industry.
For Irish farmers, the event offers a unique opportunity to benchmark their practices, discover new equipment and genetics, establish business contacts and explore how other European farmers are tackling shared challenges.
The similarities between Ireland and the Massif Central – particularly their strong livestock traditions and reliance on grass-based production – make the Sommet especially relevant for Irish agricultural professionals.
International visitors benefit from free admission with an international visitor badge, access to the international club, multilingual assistance and opportunities to connect directly with exhibitors. Free shuttle services also operate between Clermont-Ferrand Airport, train station and the exhibition grounds.
See innovation in the field
One of the Sommet’s most distinctive features is its farm tours programme, allowing international visitors to discover French agricultural expertise beyond the exhibition itself.
Around 30 technical visits will take place during the four days, giving visitors access to carefully selected farms and agricultural sites across the region. Beef and dairy farms, sheep and goat holdings and innovative agricultural businesses will open their doors to international professionals.
These visits provide a practical insight into French livestock farming and an opportunity to exchange directly with farmers. Transport from the exhibition centre is included, with half-day and full-day tours available. Places are limited, so advance booking is strongly recommended.

For 35 years, the Sommet de l’Élevage has built its reputation not only on the quality of its livestock, exhibitors and technical programme, but also on its unique atmosphere.
Alongside business meetings, conferences and technical discussions, the event provides countless opportunities for farmers and professionals from around the world to meet, exchange experiences and build lasting relationships.
The popular AfterCow evening will also return in 2026, bringing together the younger generation of farmers and agricultural professionals in a festive and welcoming atmosphere.
