GDT index drops for first time in five auctions

Dairy prices at the latest Global Dairy Trade (GDT) auction fell by 1.1% on Tuesday to an average price of €3,349/t.

This marks the first drop in the index since 6 July, following four consecutive increases in prices.

Butter fared poorly at Tuesday’s auction, suffering a 5.7% drop to an average price of €4,121/t, as did mozzarella, with a decrease of 6% to €3,456/t.

Whole milk powder was down a modest 0.8% to an average price of €3,086/t, while anhydrous milk fat fell by 3% to €4,968/t.

Lactose came back by 4.3% to €1,553/t, while butter milk powder fell slightly by 0.5%.

Increases in prices were seen for skim milk powder and cheddar.

Cheddar jumped by a notable 16.5% to an average price of €3,528, while skim milk powder lifted by a modest 0.1%.
