The Department of Agriculture, in conjunction with the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment and stakeholders, have organised six farm hazardous waste collection days across the country.

The collections will take place from 9am to 5pm and a herd number of equivalent Department registration will be required.

The next collection will take place at Ardee Livestock Sales, Co Louth, on Wednesday 23 September.

This collection will be followed by Ballinasloe Co-op Mart, Co Galway, on Tuesday 29 September; Gowran Park Racecourse, Co Kilkenny, on Wednesday 14 October; Punchestown Racecourse, Co Kildare, on Wednesday 21 October; and Clonakilty Showgrounds, Co Cork, on Wednesday 28 October.

Farmers have been advised that waste must be segregated before arriving at the collection point and cannot be dropped off in advance.

Implementation

All waste must be identifiable and transported safely – mixed or unidentifiable waste will not be accepted.

Needles, syringes and other sharp objects must be placed in a separate sealed containers.

The collections form part of the continued implementation of the Environmental Protection Agency’s National Hazardous Waste Management Plan 2021-2027.

Some 207,000kg of hazardous waste was collected during the 2025 collection days.
