The annual Hampshire Downs Export in-lamb and ram sale at Beattie’s livestock centre on Saturday 19 September saw a strong demand for stock with a 100% clearance. There was a large attendance, with additional online buyers from Great Britain and the Netherlands.

Mr Adrian Rundle from Cornwall judged the pre-show sale.

In the aged ewe class, first prize was awarded to a ewe sired by Creelly Superstar from Kevin McCarthy’s Ballycreelly flock. She later went on to sell for 680gns to Irish breeder Ciaran Cleary.

In the shearling ewe class, Kevin McCarthy came out on top once again with a ewe sired by Glenbrook Rolex. She later went on to stand reserve female champion and realised 850gns, selling to Mr O’Neill, NI.

Rodney Wilson’s Aimney Flock came out on top of the ewe lamb class, the largest class of the day. Sired by Moneycarragh Gold Finger, she later went on to lift the female champion title and sold for 1,050gns to judge Adrian Rundle.

Other notable female prices included another ewe from the Aimney Flock realising 950gns to Mr McGuickan.

Heading to the Netherlands with fellow breeder Mr Beers, was a ewe lamb from Adam Gregg’s Kildowney flock who made 950gns. Also heading this route was a ewe lamb from Sean Doyle, Loughbrea Livestock, who sold for 800gns.

Following ABP’s announcement of a contract with a major retailer offering a substantial premium for Hampshire Down sired lambs, ram trade was strong.

Topping the ram trade was a high signet performance ram from the Ballycreelly flock who realised 1050gns, selling to new breeder Mr O’Neill, NI.

Adam Gregg’s Kildowney Flock sold their ram lamb sired by Ashley Ulsterman for 900gns to Mr Davidson, NI.

Earlier male champion from Kevin McCarthy, sired by Ballycreelly Epic was purchased by Kenny Preston for 750gns for his daughter’s flock in Omagh.

First placed shearling from the presale show came from Dermott Gardiner’s Ballycreggy Flock, he sold to a commercial breeder in NI.
