Over 100 beef Shorthorn cattle went for auction in the Shannonside Shorthorn Breeders Club annual sale at Clare Marts, Ennis, on Saturday 3 October.
Pedigree and commercial customers came out in numbers, resulting in an impressive clearance rate of 85%.
Topping the sale at €3,700 was Rowanberry Velvet, bred and exhibited by Shane Brigdale, Ennis, Co Clare.
The 2024-born in-calf heifer is sired by Glenisla Merlin and out of Rowanberry Nightingale. Scanned in-calf to Creaga Dice, this one-star replacement heifer sold to an established pedigree herd in Co Clare.
Maiden heifers peaked at €3,200 for the January 2025-born Castlehaven Primrose 13.
This cracking roan heifer is sired by Creaga Vertigo and out of Castlehaven Primrose 8, a Waukaru Coppertop 464-bred cow.
Bred and exhibited by Philip Salter, Skibbereen, Co Cork, this four-star replacement heifer sold to a pedigree herd in Co Clare.

Top-priced bull
Glannview Casino, bred and exhibited by Adrian Flatley, Kilkelly, Co Mayo, headed up the bull prices, selling to a Monaghan breeder for €3,000.
With stars to burn, ranking in the top 20% of the breed for terminal, replacement and dairy-beef traits, this 13-month-old bull is sired by Crooked Post Compass and out of Glannview Ekin Su, a Doon Jupiter daughter.

The Salter family also led proceedings in the weanling heifer section, as Castlehaven Grayling 66 topped out at €2,800.
January 2026-born, this Craigfaddock Parnassus-sired heifer is out of Castlehaven Grayling 59, a Castlehaven Tornado-bred cow going back to Creaga Dice.
Backed up by a carcase weight figure of +18kg and a milk figure of +10kg, she was snapped up by a Limerick breeder.
Speaking after the sale, secretary of the Shannonside Shorthorn Breeders Club Michael Conway said: “We were delighted to see a large turnout at Ennis. Prime lots were making strong prices, with an 85% clearance. We were also delighted to see three animals selling to Wales. Many thanks to everyone for their support.”
