A Roscommon farmer was arrested at the National Ploughing Championships in Screggan, Co Offaly, on Tuesday, following an incident involving An Taoiseach Micheál Martin.
Gardaí confirmed to the Irish Farmers Journal that a man in his 60s was arrested under the Public Order Act shortly after noon.
A spokesperson said no one had been injured in the incident.
The man has since been charged and released and will appear before the district court at a later date.
The Garda spokesperson said the investigation in relation to the matter remains ongoing.
The Irish Farmers Journal understands the farmer in question sought to confront the Taoiseach and attempted to hit him.
Political staffers working alongside other senior politicians at the event said security had been heightened after the arrest.
