Carnew Mart will host the complete dispersal sale of the Grangecon Stud Limousin herd on Saturday 7 November at 1.30 pm, with bidding ringside and online through Denis Barrett Auctions via MartEye.

Due to health reasons, owners Brian King and family have made the difficult decision to retire from suckler farming. This brings the curtain down on a dedicated chapter of Limousin breeding, with the entire pedigree herd set for complete dispersal. Built with pride, passion and an uncompromising eye for top-tier genetics, the herd represents years of deliberate investment in proven cow families, champions and premier sale prize-winners.

In total, 72 head will go under the hammer. The stock breakdown comprises of senior stock bulls, young in-calf cows with calves at foot, in-calf heifers, maiden heifers and service-age breeding bulls.

Commercial efficiency and maternal traits have underpinned the entire breeding programme. Over 86% of the herd ranks as four- or five-star on the replacement index across all breeds, ensuring widespread eligibility for SCEP. A major focus has been placed on breeding cattle with high indexes, easy calving, great mothering ability and functional correctness – producing dependable, trouble-free stock built specifically to suit busy and part-time farmers.

As the sale was unplanned, all animals come forward entirely naturally and in their everyday working clothes. None have been pushed on feeding, meaning buyers are purchasing genuine, hardy and transparent stock.

Stock bulls

Leading the sire offering is stock bull Liss Victor, tapped out as reserve champion at the society’s Premier Sale in May 2025. Sired by Kaprico Eravelle, he brings serious presence alongside a terminal index of €173, a replacement index of €162 and a +30.6kg carcase weight.

Joining him is Drumline Vern, an imposing Tomschoice Lexicon son boasting an impressive €200 replacement index and a +6.3kg milk figure.

Beyond the stock bulls forward, the breeding females and young stock are stacked with proven bloodlines. Pedigrees across the catalogue feature household sires, including Ampertaine Foreman, Wilodge Vantastic and Sympa. These bloodlines bring time-tested consistency, carefully selected to add width, muscle and style into progeny while maintaining the milk and docility essential for dependable suckler performance.

High herd health

A high herd health status had been strictly prioritised throughout the herd’s development.

Backed by a clean TB history, the herd has been bluetongue vaccinated and export tested. All breeding bulls have been fertility tested and are ready for work.

Viewing opens from 9am on Saturday morning. Catalogues and online registration are available at Denis Barrett Auctions.
