There was a strong demand at the Munster Angus Breeders Autumn Select Sale in Golden Vale Mart, Kilmallock, on Saturday, as the average price for heifers rose by €425 from last year's sale.

In total, 25 heifers sold to average €3,850, followed by two Angus bulls at €3,500 each.

Just four animals left the ring unsold, as the club's sales turnover passed €1m for the first time.

It was a day to remember for Tipperary breeder Michael Sheahan, as he claimed the champion and reserve champion titles, before going on to achieve the four highest prices.

In pole position, claiming the overall championship and selling for the highest price of €6,200 was Luddenmore Frances B691, a March 2025-born maiden heifer sired by Carruthers Earl W088.

Displaying a page of stars, with a carcase weight figure of +19.7kg and a milk figure of +8.4kg, Frances was awarded the Michael Cronin Memorial Perpetual Trophy.

She was knocked down to Donogh McCarthy's Lemonfield herd in Co Limerick.

Reserve champion Luddenmore Kim B686, a February 2025 maiden heifer by Drumhill Lord Hampstead V127, then sold to Patrick Stephenson from Co Kilkenny for €5,100.

With calving figures as low as 1.3% on beef cows and a milk figure of +10.4kg, she attracted lots of admirers ringside.

Selling for the second-highest price of €5,700 was Luddenmore Fleur B703, another Drumhill Lord Hampstead V127 daughter from Michael Sheahan's draft.

Like many of her comrades, she packed a massive terminal index of €117 and below-average calving figures on beef cows and heifers.

Snapping this one up was Frank Daly from Co Kildare.

Sheahan also received €5,500 for Luddenmore Ebony B707, an August 2025-born maiden heifer by Carruthers Earl W088, which wrapped up a brilliant day's trading.

In-calf heifers

Ardglass Blackcap B379 topped the in-calf heifer trade at €4,900 for Cork breeder Breda Crowley.

Born in February 2025, this Steil Victor daughter is out of a Gigginstown-bred cow and came with a five-star terminal value of €94. She sold due to calve down in March 2026.

Tubridmore Wilma 799, a September 2023-born in-calf heifer by Tubridmore Up Lazy River, from Denis Twomey in Co Kerry retailed at €4,800.

Boasting a five-star replacement index of €210, she sold due to calve down in January to a fellow Kerry breeder.

Curraclough Abbygail, an October 2024-born in-calf heifer by Deelish Son of a Gun, from Gerard Coughlan in Co Cork also traded at €4,800.

In the top 20% of the breed for carcase weight and milk, she found a new home in Co Cork with Michael O'Reilly.
